Furnish your home AND help someone else HAVE a home.

Want to get furnishings for your home and help others at the same time?

Check out Habitat For Humanity.  This organization helps people be home owners.  Donations help to fund this.  Some of the donations are cash others are in the form of furniture and household items and building materials.

The location is the spot where Treasure Chest used to be and the new location is much larger, giving you a lot more choices.  You can find everything from couches, tables, dressers and so on to dishes, pictures and used building supplies.  Prices are excellent and there are always lots of options.

If you are looking for furnishings to change things up in your existing household, or if you have moved and are setting up a new household, check out Habitat for Humanity first, it may save you money AND you can help someone else have a home.

How does it work with Habitat For Humanity?  When an applicant applies, they don't just get a house, they must also work to help to build the home.  Homes are built by the new home owner in connection with other volunteers who help to build the home as well.

You can help Habitat For Humanity at least 4 ways.....

1. Shop there ( and help yourself too)

2. Donate cash

3. Volunteer to help build homes and more

4. Donate your items you do not need to their retail stores ( a great option if you are moving out of the area, or newly moved into a home and find things you have do not work in the new home)

Living in Lakewood- Educational Opportunities- Clover Park Technical College

Lakewood is a wonderful place for students.  There are so many great options for education here including adult education.  One of those options is Clover Park Technical College

What is special about Clover park Technical College?  It's huge campus offers a vast array of career training options.  Want to learn how to be a licensed hair stylist?  You can at Clover Park Tech.  Interested in being an electrician?  They can help you get started.   Looking for an training in office management, a medical field or engineering?  If the answer is yes you can get started with Clover Park Tech.  Some of the programs are certificates, some are 2 year degrees.  All are geared to get you up and running and earning fast.

Other options are getting a high school diploma while being in vocational high school, which gives a student the option of graduating high school while also graduating for vocational college.  Better yet, a student who uses this option will likely have their college paid for.  ( check with Clover Park Tech to find out more about their Vocational High School Program.)

Not only do you have so many options with Clover Park Tech, you also have a beautiful campus with plenty of parking, a student book store, onsite restaurants ( including a student run location that is part of the culinary arts program) and more.  Additionally Clover Park Tech is conveniently located for anyone in Lakewood, but also for nearby cities since it's close to the free way and very accessible.

Beautiful new changes bring more sense of community to Lakewood

There are many changes coming to Lakewood and some are here already.

One of the biggest changes is what you see as you drive along Gravelly Lake Drive near the Towne Center.  Several newer businesses now grace the area, Newer businesses include American Lake Credit UnionDutch Brother's CoffeeKelly's Tax ServicesCVS Pharmacy and more.

Additionally there is a new community gathering place right off of Gravelly Lake Drive.  The finished project is amazing.  Click here to see the project before completion and information on the plan for it.  Click here    to see a completed picture of it.

Hope you enjoy pictures of it from the evening night market that was held on the opening day celebration and pictures of it empty in the day light as well.

I love how Lakewood is working to create more family friendly community spaces & events.

Spring and early Summer flowers in Lakewood WA

Here are some pics of flowers I saw on walks in Lakewood WA this Spring and early Summer.  Enjoy!

This was near the bridge that goes over Ponce De Leon Creek where it flows into Lake Steilacoom
Lake Steilacoom

Many of the neighborhoods all go in bloom at once with bulbs that show off every Spring.  Want some of your own and wondering when to plant?  Click here
Periwinkles are a common flower at roadsides especially, likely because it works well as ground cover.

This may remind you of winter, but this was taken early Summer near Interlaaken bridge
Taken near the steps to the entrance of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lakewood WA, more of the bulbs that burst forth each Spring.

Camila flowers, also come in light pink shades
